Kyocera Announces Stunning New Kyotop Damascus-Look Cutlery

Irvine, CA. April 2005 - Spring's freshest line of cutlery is the KYOTOP Damascus series from Kyocera Advanced Ceramics. Kyocera's premium series features a stunning Damascus-look blade on five popular styles: paring, utility, slicing, Santoku and chef's knives. KYOTOP Damascus replaces the existing KYOTOP line with absolutely no increase in price and, like all Kyocera advanced ceramic products, these knives won't brown foods, won't transfer a metallic taste or smell, and will never rust.

Close in hardness to diamond, these advanced ceramic knives feature "HIP" (Hot Isostatic Pressed) blades fired a second time at a higher temperature in a sealed vacuum for greater wear resistance. Durable Pakka wood handles are moisture-resistant and riveted in 3 places. The hand-finished blades are then polished and packed into elegant black presentation boxes.

Specialty kitchen retailers are now offering the KYOTOP Damascus line in select stores. The MSRP ranges from: $129.95 for a 3" paring knife to $299.95 for the 6" Chef's knife.

About Advanced Ceramics

Manufactured in Japan, the KYOTOP Damascus is the newest line of premium cutlery from Kyocera, renowned for ceramic cutlery and accessories with exceptional technical characteristics.

To make the blades, ceramic material is ground into a micro-fine powder, made into slurry and poured into a machine where it is subjected to 100 tons of pressure and molded into blades.

Following the molding process, the blades are sintered at a temperature of over 1,000 degrees, surface finished, tumbled and buffed. The blades are then precision-polished, buffed, honed and sharpened using diamond wheels to create the primary cutting edge. The result is a zirconium oxide blade that is extremely sharp and durable.
